Exuctive Member Of ASTM
ASTM International (ASTM), originally known as the American Society for Testing and Materials, is an international standards organization that develops and publishes voluntary consensus technical standards for a wide range of materials, products, systems, and services. The organization's headquarters is in West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, about 5 miles (8 km) northwest of Philadelphia.
ASTM, founded in 1898, predates other standards organizations such as BSI (1901), DIN (1917) and AFNOR (1926), but differs from these in that it is not a national standards body, that role being taken in the USA by ANSI. However, ASTM has a dominant role among standards developers in the USA, and claims to be the world's largest developer of standards. Using a consensus process, ASTM supports thousands of volunteer technical committees, which draw their members from around the world and collectively develop and maintain more than 12,000 standards.
ASTM International publishes the Annual Book of ASTM Standards each year in print, CD and online versions. The online version was available by subscription and cost was based upon usage. For 2008, the complete set of books or CDs cost almost US$9000 and included 81 volumes. For 2010, the complete set of books or CDs cost almost $9700 and included 82 volumes.
In 2001, ASTM changed its name to ASTM International to reflect global participation in ASTM and worldwide use of its standards.
In 2009, a joint effort by standards development organizations AAMI, ANSI, ASTM, and DIN created a single, centralized database for medical device standards.
The Annual Book of ASTM Standards covers 15 sections of interest plus a master index:

[edit] History
A group of scientists and engineers, led by Charles Benjamin Dudley formed the American Society for Testing and Materials in 1898 to address the frequent rail breaks plaguing the fast-growing railroad industry. The group developed a standard for the steel used to fabricate rails. In 2001, ASTM changed its name to ASTM International to reflect global participation in ASTM and worldwide use of its standards.
In 2009, a joint effort by standards development organizations AAMI, ANSI, ASTM, and DIN created a single, centralized database for medical device standards.
[edit] Standards
The standards produced by ASTM International fall into six categories:- the Standard Specification, that defines the requirements to be satisfied by subject of the standard.
- the Standard Test Method, that defines the way a test is performed and the precision of the result. The result of the test may be used to assess compliance with a Standard Specification.
- the Standard Practice, that defines a sequence of operations that, unlike a Standard Test Method, does not produce a result.
- the Standard Guide, that provides an organized collection of information or series of options that does not recommend a specific course of action.
- the Standard Classification, that provides an arrangement or division of materials, products, systems, or services into groups based on similar characteristics such as origin, composition, properties, or use.
- the Terminology Standard, that provides agreed definitions of terms used in the other standards.
The Annual Book of ASTM Standards covers 15 sections of interest plus a master index:
- Iron and Steel Products
- Nonferrous Metal Products
- Metals Test Methods and Analytical Procedures
- Construction
- Petroleum Products, Lubricants, and Fossil Fuels
- Paints, Related Coatings, and Aromatics
- Textiles
- Plastics
- Rubber
- Electrical Insulation and Electronics
- Water and Environmental Technology
- Nuclear, Solar, and Geothermal Energy
- Medical Devices and Services
- General Methods and Instrumentation

Name:PAKISTAN SOCIETY OF B-TECH ENGINEERS (PSBTE)Category:Organizations - Academic OrganizationsDescription:PAKISTAN SOCIETY OF B-TECH ENGINEERS (PSBTE):
PAKISTAN SOCIETY OF B-TECH ENGINEERS (PSBTE):
The Pakistan Society of B-Tech Engineers (PSBTE) is a non-profit national association for the B-Tech engineers and Associate Engineers. PSBTE was found by a group of engineering technologists in 2006, originally as a private club network for its founding members. Later, with the efforts from its members, PSBTE membership became open to all the members in the B-Tech engineering and Associate Engineering community.
OUR EFFORTS:
Our first effort is to protest against Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Pakistan Engineering Council and Government of Pakistan because they are trying to degrade our degree.
Second, we also struggle for all DAE Students to provide the fifty percent eligibility in GOVT Universities of Engineering and Technoligies. During the Technical educational period of DAE at least one year apprenticeship program are provided in various companies and organizations.
The "PAKISTAN SOCIETY OF B-TECH ENGINEERS" l will be a statutory body, to regulate the technology profession in the country such that it will function as key driving force for achieving rapid and sustainable growth in all national, economic and social fields. The council will as its mission set and maintain realistic and internationally relevant standards of professional competence and ethics for technologists.
Its main statutory functions include registration of technologists, consulting technologists, constructors/operators and accreditation of technology programmes run by universities/institutions, ensuring and managing of continuing professional development, will assist the Federal Government as think tank, establishing standards for technology products and services besides safeguarding the interest of its members. The council shall encourage, facilitate and regulate working of professional technology bodies as learned societies for creativity and custodians of technology under the umbrella of the council.
PSBTE will interact with the Government, both at the Federal and Provincial level by participating in Commissions, Committees and Advisory Bodies. PSBTE is a fully representative body of the technolgy community in the country.
PSBTE will also provide support to the Government in conducting technical enquiries and recommending remedial measures on the subjects referred. the PSBTE will become an influential voice, which speaks for the technology profession as a whole in the country. It will form an effective bridge between Government, industry and education.
OUR GOALS:
To promote the co-operation between the professionals in various fields of the engineering and to cultivate an environment for the advance and development of the technology.
OUR OBJECTIVES:
Promoting the interactions between the B-Tech Engineers & Associate Engineers;
Advancing the application of engineering techniques from the academics to the industry;
Facilitating the exchange of information and ideas among the engineers and scientists freely.
OUR MISSION (Pakistan Technology Council):
When the PEC had announced that it would not consider the four-year BTech degree equivalent to the BSc engineering then PSBTE (Pakistan Society of B-Tech Engineers) decided the government should make a separate council for Engineering technologists (B-Tech) and technicians (DAE), named “Pakistan Technology Council”.
Now the action Committe of PSBTE decided in his grand meating with all B.tech Organizations of Pak and Students that the GOVT of Pakistan should take a serious action on the bill of establishment of "PAKISTAN TECHNOLOGY COUNCIL" whose already pending in "Ministery of Science and Technology" due to third-class objections of PEC (Pakistan Engineering Council).
WHY WE DEMAND THE ESTABLISHMENT OF PTC (Pakistan Technology Council):
Because PTC is the only forum which will effectively project our true image, contribution in progress and prosperity of pakistan. This forum will eliminate all disparities like
1) Higher Education and Admision in Universities for MS Engineering
2) Equal Empolyement and job Oppertunities as enjoyed by BE Students.
3) Encourage original research in Technical education, conservation and economic utilization of the resources of the country.
4) Scale and Scope should be define in Gazte of Pakistan like different department policies
5) Funds Allocations, Curicula updates and Degree Equivalency
6) This forum will register all Technologist (B-Tech Engg) and Technician (DAE).
7) This forum will also provide co-ordination b/w provencial, international and national level technical education authorties, like SDC, NTB, TEVTA, NEVTEC, IET and colleges of technologies
8) This forum willeffectively encounter propaganda spread by PEC.
9) Help in the acquisition and exchange of technical knowledge
10) Promotion of all professional interest and social welfare of its members
11) To disseminate information and knowledge among technologist, technician and engineers through lectures, conferences, seminars and publication of journal and papers.
Therefore we request to all B-Tech Engineers, DAE & B-Tech Students that now be a part of PSBTE (PAKISTAN SOCIETY OF B-TECH ENGINEERS) and unite for the establishment of "Pakistan Technology Council (read less)
